May – August 2013
For a special last Saturday treat, wander into one of our brand new classroom discovery days. We’ve got bones, animal pelts, live animals (including our new corn snake Pockets), and all sorts of other cool stuff we want to share with you. Each session will have a specific theme, but it’s not a structured program so you can come and go as you please.
All about canine carnivores; learn about coyotes and foxes as we discover how to track these elusive nocturnal creatures. After our hike we’ll play some fun tracking games and enjoy the campfire with S’mores for dessert.
Cost: $6/person (non-member), $5/person (member), pre-registration is required.
I never knew they were nocturnal! When we think of nocturnal creatures, bats and owls often come to mind. Did you know beavers, worms, and flying squirrels are nocturnal too? We’ll learn all about the forgotten nocturnal creatures as we look for tracks and scat on our hike. Back at our campfire we’ll share stories, play games, and create a Dutch oven dessert.
Cost: $6/person (non-member), $5/person (member), pre-registration is required.
Incredible Insects - on this night we’ll travel through the forest finding moths, spiders, crickets, and all sorts of other cool critters We’ll use black lights, our special recipe of moth sugar, and other tricks of the trade to see as many insects as possible. Following our hike we’ll make a campfire, and get our own dose of sugar as we make S’mores for dessert.
Cost: $6/person (non-member), $5/person (member), pre-registration is required.
