From beginners to advanced birders, anyone who is fascinated by the sounds of birds, consider taking advantage of these guided walks lead by Audubon/Tryon Volunteers Rick and Stephanie Wagner. Each day of the week visit one of the metro area’s prime spring migration hot-spots; beginning with Tryon Creek on Mondays. By starting with the earliest trips you can become familiar with the songs of the common resident species and then keep pace with the migrants as they arrive.
Ages: Teen to Adult
Free, no pre-registration required.

Venture out with a park guide for a free, nature hike to explore the forest and stream ecosystems and natural history at Tryon Creek State Natural Area. Topics will vary from week to week, and will be geared for ages 5 through adult, but all ages are welcome. Parents must accompany kids on all hikes. Slug races, slug anatomy quiz, and a slug craft
Saturdays have a full range of activities for kids and their families. The nature party starts with joining the Saturday Guided Walk from 10:00-11:30am and then a drop-in open house of arts and crafts, learning stations and games from 11:30am-2:30pm. Each week there will be a different topic about our wonderful forest to explore. Participation in the guided walk or the stations will help you attain one level of the Junior Ranger passport program. Parents must participate in the exploration with their children. All parents/guardians must sign a permission slip before children participate.Click Here for Details
