This has been another amazing year for the Friends and for Tryon Creek State Natural Area. Our efforts have educated thousands of school children and adults, have continued to restore the health of our forest and ecosystem and have truly made a difference in making this natural area an accessible, welcoming place. This fall we finished a major strategic planning effort which gave us the opportunity to think long and hard about the work we do. Out of that came a renewed emphasis for the organization to focus our passion on ideas we feel are most relevant today – assuring that this generation and ones that follow embrace an ethic of stewardship so we continue preserving our region’s important natural areas. This mission ties so closely back to the values of the Friends’ founders, who fought hard to make sure this property was preserved for future generations to enjoy – for if we are successful, the ethic of stewardship that motivated them will now guide future generations.
