Join Friends of Tryon Creek to connect with and care for Tryon Creek State Natural Area. Depending on the season, Friends staff lead volunteers in removing ivy growing up mature trees, digging up blackberry along the ground, or planting and caring for new native trees and shrubs near the creek. Volunteers are a key part in our efforts to enhance the overall health and resilience of the urban forest and community.
Volunteer activities include hiking 1-2 miles from the Nature Center to the current project location, and using hand tools like clippers and shovels. Instructions, gloves, supervision, and tools are provided (feel free to bring your own gloves).
Sign up to volunteer for Saturdays here.
These activities are best suited for adults or youth ages 13 and older. Youth under the age of 16 need to be accompanied by an adult, those between the age of 16-17 need an Oregon State Parks and Recreation parent-signed waiver.
Active volunteers do not need to pay the $10 parking fee (that starts October 1st). Please look for directions on parking in your registration confirmation email and automatic reminder.
If you have questions before you sign up to volunteer contact Nanda Ramos, Friends of Tryon Creek Restoration Coordinator.
